Visible RFIDSmart Cards

Cards embedded with e-paper IDs. These cards use contactless proximity communication (NFC) to overwrite displayed information—including barcodes. Smartphones can also be used for overwriting.

Visible RFID uses e-paper, which alleviates the environmental burden of consuming and disposing of conventional paper labels, and also substantially reduces electricity consumption. No electricity is required to maintain displays; electricity is only used for overwriting. Visible RFID can be immediately incorporated into existing systems because the barcodes are legible to nearly all handy terminals.

Smart Card Advantages

Digitize production orders for paperless, real-time management of work histories

We have replaced paper production orders with Smart Cards. The displays require no electricity and cannot be erased accidentally, so operators can handle the cards with confidence. Smart Card IDs are scanned when work is complete, allowing work histories to be managed in real time.

Target Customers

The manufacturing industry (automobile-related, computer-related, electrical and electronic equipment, construction machinery, industrial equipment, precision instruments)

Goals

  • Go paperless
  • Make data real-time
  • Traceability
  • Eliminate handwriting errors

Benefits

  • Waste reduction—no more paper production orders
  • Intuitive for operators—important information for each process is displayed. All information is digitized to eliminate errors due to handwriting, which improves operational efficiency and reduces costs.

Reduce waiting time for the bill at restaurants

When it is time for the bill at a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant, a staff member uses a handy terminal to scan plates embedded with RFID tags. The terminal counts the number of plates, and overwrites the number on a Smart Card in front of the customer’s eyes. The number of plates and the total amount due is displayed on the e-paper part of the Smart Card. The customer confirms the figures and takes the Smart Card to the register. The Smart Card is scanned at the register, and the customer pays the bill.

Target Customers

Restaurants

Goals

  • Go paperless
  • Reduce waiting time for the bill

Benefits

  • Customers are more confident, and work for the staff is reduced
  • Customers prepare the amount to pay before they reach the register, reducing paying time spent and streamlining operations.

Protect personal information when moving medical care equipment and medicine around hospitals

Smart Cards are used in place of paper labels on crates used to move medical care equipment and clothing for patients around hospitals

Target Customers

Hospitals

Goals

  • Protect personal information normally written on paper labels
  • Eliminate the work of disposing of labels and the risk of leaking personal information

Benefits

  • Personal information can be erased easily and rapidly after use or delivery.
  • Data can be maintained and managed even if the display is erased.

Use as medical examination cards to provide smooth guidance to patients

Smart Cards are used as the medical examination cards that patients use to sign in for medical examinations and comprehensive physicals.

Target Customers

Hospitals

Goals

  • Protect personal information normally written on paper labels
  • Eliminate the work of disposing of labels and the risk of leaking personal information

Benefits

  • The cards are small, so patients do not have to worry about carrying them as they move around the hospital.
  • Personal information can be erased easily and rapidly after use.
  • Data can be maintained and managed even if the display is erased.

Use in facility maintenance and cleaning to visualize work histories

Smart Cards are installed on walls in place of conventional paper maintenance logs. Workers hold their smartphones up to the Smart Cards to log when they finish cleaning.

Target Customers

General stores, public utilities, commercial buildings, office buildings, facility equipment manufacturers

Goals

  • Make work histories visible
  • Make work histories available as real-time data
  • Manage workers

Benefits

With conventional paper maintenance logs installed on walls, workers are expected to handwrite their cleaning records, but there are cases where they fill out the logs completely without actually doing the cleaning as scheduled. The Smart Card system delivers accurate cleaning records because each Smart Card has a specific ID, and the smartphones used to log the cleaning identify the location and individual who performed the cleaning.
